Hi gang,
Taking a little inspiration from Mommy Moshpit I invite you to a round of “Virtural Cirlce” If you aren’t familiar with Stacie’s blog or her game here’s a quick run down… I ask you a question and you, dear reader, in all of your wisdom help to answer it- or at least leave me a little of your wisdom and advise.

So here goes—
Over Christmas I received a very nice gift from someone. Unfortunelty, I already had a version of said gift and was told I could return it to Costco and find something else that I liked. Here is where the question comes in, I would like to purchas a new sewing machine. Costco carries two
1. The brother
2. The singer

I have done a bit of research on amazon and both get fairly good reviews (The brother’s seem to be a bit more possitive over all) I currently own a Brother sewing machine, but would really love something with a bit more ‘umph and a few more fancy functions.
So what do ya say? Anyone have any experience with either of these models? or any preference on one brand vs. the other?

i bought a new brother in 2006 from a big box retailer and it made me crazy. totally crazy. it had loads of pretty stitches but the tension was always an issue, no matter what i was doing.

the sewing machine repair shop said it would cost more to diagnose the problem than it would to replace it, so i ended up buying the best refurbished machine i could afford — it’s a relic, but it’s a workhorse and i’ve been so happy since.

i’m sure you’re not looking to make this decision more complicated, but you might consider checking sewing machine repair shops to see what folks have traded in. good luck to you!!!

i used to sew on a little brother awhile back, but just this year went from (a different industrial) brother to quaint little singer machine, and i am very pleased with it! i got the basic model (which had plenty of bells and whistles for me, some 20+ stitches) and i told the little old man “it’s so fancy!” and he smiled and told me that this was the model that most mommas buy for their daughters learning to sew. i’ve been sewing for 17 years and i’m happy with it! have fun in your picking!!
